Hi friends! I am back with ANOTHER face mask tutorial. This time, I am focusing on EASY. Many of you have left comments that you found my Face Mask with Filter pocket tutorial simple and quick to assemble. Today, I am going to show you how to make that pattern even easier.
Filti has created a Face Mask Material that makes mask making even easier, and according to their Material Safety Data Sheet, even safer than a fabric mask. I tried 3 different ways to use this fabric. First I used my Pleated Face Mask Tutorial shown on the lower left of the photo above. I also used the Filti Fabric as a filter in my Face Mask with Pocket (shown above in the upper left corner. I used the Cricut Maker to cut the filter. To be honest, this is the way I will most likely continue to use the Filti Fabric Mask Material. In today’s tutorial, I am going to show you the EASIEST Face Mask tutorial yet. We are going to create a two layer face mask with elastic (you can substitute ties if you like).
I am going to jump right into the tutorial. You can use this tutorial with all fabric or try it with the Filti Material. Stay Safe!
I couldn’t find on the Filti website whether this material is supposed to be single-use, or if it is washable. Do you know?

How long are your elastic pieces?

I cut out both 7 1/2 and 8 inch pieces of elastic. The 8 inch elastic fit slightly better than the 7 1/2 inch elastic. We have big heads so that might make a difference. I also added a bit of clear elastic to the nose area. Can’t say how much I used as I didn’t measure it but I would guess it was around 1 1/2 inches. I snipped off the remaining elastic once I was done gathering the nose area.
You’re putting a seam smack dab in the hot zone of nose and mouth. How is that not affecting filtration?
I have three layers of seam allowance alternating directions covering it so that’s 6 layers of fabric down that seam. I feel safe with that for my use
I also use a non woven filter so that is ANOTHER layer of protection down the center
I have been sewing my seams to one side because someone else brought this up in with another similar design. Yes, it adds more work and time, but it seals the seam.

Isn’t there one side that goes next to the face and the other side goes away from the face?? Which goes where???

The fuzzier side is facing out I do believe.
thank you for sharing, on this style mask you are not finding it necessary to add any support around nose? that is great if the case, just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing that step. I’m cutting material tonight and sewing tomorrow. wish me luck 🙂 wish I had that rotating cutting board that looks awesome. (I am rotating instead of my board 🙂 )
You can add the nose support if you want but I have not found the need to
